Tesla Roadster returns: a striking demo, production targeted for 2028
Checked 2026-10-16. Performance figures are Tesla claims, not an independent test result.
Tesla presented its redesigned Roadster on 15 October 2026 in McGregor, Texas. The demonstration included brief airborne maneuvers, but it does not mark the start of customer deliveries.
What Tesla claims
Performance has 2 seats. The optional Thrust upgrade adds rear cold-gas thrusters; Tesla claims 0–60 mph (about 97 km/h) in under 1 s. Rocket has 1 seat and is invitation only. It is designed for airborne maneuvers; the manufacturer says it is not approved for public road use.
Timing and reservations
Musk targets production in 2028. Reuters reported reservation deposits of 50 000 USD for Performance and 250 000 USD for Thrust. These are not purchase prices; no current final selling price was announced.
My perspective
Roadster could strengthen Tesla’s engineering image. Its effect on financial results remains unknown. I would put more weight on production starting, manufacturing costs and actual customer deliveries than on the demonstration.
