What do these figures measure?
Inventories measure commodities already extracted or produced. They are neither geological reserves nor production volumes.
Oil, fuels and gas · JODI
CLOSTLV observations at month-end, with history from 2015. Crude includes lease condensate and excludes NGL. Gasoline includes motor and aviation gasoline; gas/diesel oil includes non-transport uses. Primary stocks may include government and industry holdings; they are not necessarily commercial inventories alone.
Oil and fuels: thousand barrels converted to millions. Gas: million m³ converted to billions, covering recoverable stored gas and excluding cushion gas. Coverage varies by country; OPEC uses ownership while most partners use territorial definitions.
Wheat, corn and rice · USDA
Ending Stocks from the Production, Supply and Distribution (PSD) database, from marketing year 2000/01. Thousand metric tonnes converted to millions. Rice is on a milled basis. Latest retrieved data release: 2026-09.
These are balance-sheet estimates; the current season includes forecasts and historical values may be revised. The EU is available separately as a region, without allocating its stocks to member countries or adding it to the country ranking. Historical Serbia and Montenegro is not split between successor states.
USDA FAS · PSDComparisons & missing data
Negative source stock levels are treated as invalid observations, not as zero. This dataset excludes 10 such records.
The map and ranking always use a single selected period. YoY compares the same month a year earlier; grains compare consecutive marketing years. Percentage changes are unavailable when the base is zero. Grey hatching indicates missing data or a missing YoY comparison. Different units are not added together, and reporting-country totals are not presented as world inventories.
The retrieval date is not the observation date. Sources publish with a lag; this page shows a retrieved dataset, not a live inventory feed.
