CPI and HICP have different coverage and weights. Use the HICP filter for harmonised European comparisons. Reference months can differ; this is not a global inflation estimate.

Each country starts at 100 in the base year. A value of 150 means its basket became 50% more expensive; it does not compare absolute living costs between countries. Missing observations remain gaps in the chart.
US: the 2025 annual average covers 11 months. BLS did not publish October data because of the federal government funding lapse. BLS methodology ↗

Calculations use the ratio of annual CPI indices. This is a statistical basket, without interest or income changes; personal expenses may change differently. A dash means the selected year’s index is unavailable.
Poland: the price index is chained from published GUS annual ratios, with 2000 = 100. Rounding makes basket calculations approximate.

Points are survey editions, not daily prices. USD price changes reflect both local prices and exchange rates. The July 2022 change in US price methodology limits comparability over time.
Bar lengths are capped at ±100%; numbers always show the full value. The euro area is one market in this dataset.

Monthly releases
Verified on: 30 Sept 2026
Monthly readings link directly to releases from Eurostat and national statistical agencies. Publication status and seasonal adjustment are retained.
Year-on-year compares a month with the same month one year earlier. Month-on-month compares consecutive months; seasonal adjustment is labelled. Annual history compares annual averages. IMF forecasts remain a separate dataset.
Reference month, publication date and verification date are different. A newer check does not create a new observation.
Poland: the price index is chained from published GUS annual ratios, with 2000 = 100. Rounding makes basket calculations approximate.
Country forecasts: April 2026 WEO database. Monthly releases can be newer.

CPI / inflation
CPI tracks a broad consumer basket. Annual observations allow year-to-year comparisons but do not replace the latest monthly releases. National baskets and methods may differ.
WEO provides projected annual average price changes. Projections are shown separately from historical CPI. The map median is unweighted across available economies, not an economy-weighted global inflation rate.
A single product’s price illustrates currency purchasing-power parity. It is neither a full cost-of-living basket nor CPI inflation. Taxes, wages, rents and local competition also affect prices. India uses the Maharaja Mac.
Reference month, publication date and verification date are different. A newer check does not create a new observation. Annual data, IMF edition and Big Mac survey checked against their providers.
